1. ¿What are the requirements to register domains?

.cr ONLY submit documentation if the name is a registered trademark or gauze some protection in the Intellectual Property laws. In these cases, if the applicant is a legal person, the documentation to be submitted is:
  • Letter from the legal representative of the applicant requesting the domain name

.ac.cr ONLY submit public institutions or at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. In these cases the documents to be presented are:

.go.cr Submit documentation ALL governmental entities which recorded under this category. The documents to be presented are:
  • Letter of the Minister, Deputy Minister, or maximum hierarch of the institution requesting the domain.
  • Original of the legal personality of the entity with no more than 1 month of emitted.
  • Photocopy of an identity card of the Minister, Deputy Minister, or maximum hierarch.
.or.cr ONLY submits documentation at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. In this case, the documentation to be presented is the following:
  • Letter of the legal representative of who asked for the name requesting domain.
  • Original certificate of the company requesting the name with no more than 1 month issued.
  • Photocopy of an identity card of the legal representative.
.sa.cr ONLY submit documentation public health centers or at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. The documents to be presented are:
  • Certification of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund or Ministry of Health and recognizes the center or health institution and Director of the Office.
  • Letter from the Director requesting the domain.
  • Photocopy of an identity card of the Director.

NIC-Internet Costa Rica reserves the right to request any other documentation that it deems necessary for the registration of a domain name. In those cases in which the applicant required to submit documentation, this must be sent in original to the offices of NIC-Internet Costa Rica.

2. ¿What are the steps for registering the different types of domains that are in Costa Rica?

Paying by bank deposit or transfer:

3. ¿Can I register a domain only to reserve?

4. ¿Who can make changes to a domain and what types of modifications can do?

5. ¿What is the procedure to change a domain?

Modification by electronic means:

  • The official website http://www.nic.cr, login with your NIC Handle and password to access the Change option in Frequently Procedures.
  • Select the type of change that is desired (contact information or domain information).

  • Sending them online.

The change in the personal contact information and / or changing the NIC-Handle administrative and / or technical domain name will be applied automatically in the database, once the appropriate electronic application for amendment has been completed and sent successfully.

The change in the information of the name servers of a third level domain will be applied on the primary server to a maximum of twenty-four hours, after NIC-Internet Costa Rica has received the electronic application and approved it. NIC - Internet Costa Rica will send an automatic electronic notification to the contact information on the implementation of changes. 6. ¿How long does a domain to be changed? ?

7. ¿What is a domain off and how is it done?

9. ¿What is a domain removal and how is it done?

For non-payment:

By misinformation, false and abuse:

In the case of check the use of a domain name for illicit activities contrary to the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica, the morals and good customs, shall be notified to the contacts of the domain to which remedy that situation within a maximum period of 15 calendar days. By wrong holder:

It is the responsibility of the registrant coordinate with NIC-Internet Costa Rica the elimination of the name for their further registration, already that NIC-Internet Costa Rica is not responsible for entering registration applications for the same domain name by a third party. This process has an administrative charge equivalent to the cost of the registration of a domain within one year, the amount left over will be available so that the user may make any other transaction, or to be returned to the user in accordance with the internal procedure of NIC-Internet Costa Rica for this process. The implementation of the amount left over for another transaction or refund applies, always and when the domain is less than one calendar year since it was registered.

10. ¿How do i recover my password in case of oblivion?
