About NAME SERVERS AND IP ADDRESSES
1. ¿What is a name server (DNS)?
A name server or Domain Name Server (DNS) is a computer with hardware features specific, and interchangeably operating system platform, which allows you to provide some service environment to a network. In the case of the DNS, the service that provides is that of hosting for the domain names recorded on the Internet.

2. ¿What is an IP address?
An IP address is a numeric code that uniquely identifies a particular computer on the Internet. The registration of the address includes a domain name, for example: anc.ac.cr, and a number composed of four numbers compounds separated by a point (for example 163.178.20.2). IP is the protocol used on the Internet (Internet Protocol). Internet addresses are assigned by an international body called IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority).

3. ¿How do I get the information for the Primary and Secondary name servers and the IP addresses of my domain?
Who will provide you with this information is the company or person in charge of giving a web hosting service to your domain name, in some cases only is going to have a server (which will be called primary server) with your IP address (which will be called IP address primary). In other cases you will have a second server (which will be called secondary server) with your IP address (which will be called IP address secondary), this second server has the purpose of providing greater support for your information, either web page or email
In a domain registered in NIC-Internet Costa Rica you must have at least two name servers and you can register a maximum of nine name servers.

4. ¿What technical information, in NIC-Internet Costa Rica must possess a domain to be activated?
For a domain is activated must possess at least two servers of different names. NIC - for its part provides free service of secondary server, which you can purchase online when applying for a registration, or a technical modification of the domain.
In addition, you can register in the domain, a maximum of nine name servers.
